Will & Grace are best friends. Will is a gay lawyer and Grace is a straight interior designer. They both live in New York. Grace is engaged to a real jerk, but when that relationship falls apart, she moves in with Will. This is only supposed to be until Grace finds a place of her own, but she and Will end up with each other as permanent roommates. Also in the cast are Jack, Will's flamboyant gay friend and Karen, Grace's secretary/assistant who doesn't really need to work because she married money several times.

When Grace meets the stranger in the elevator she invites him over to have some cocktails. As it turns out, the stranger is not dangerous, but a bit weird and boring.

It gets worse when Vince shows up at the dinner and has just got fired from a job by Harry Winston. Margot introduces Grace to Leonard, but he is quite older than Grace expected and surprisingly he is also Margot's husband. Rosario is very sick and Karen doesn't want her to bring into a hospital, because she thinks she is faking.

When he is in Karen's house he sees a whole new part of it and he finds something that Karen calls "the forbidden room". Karen doesn't tell Jack what is in the room. Jack tries to figure out what could be behind the locked door. Grace meets Margot at the coffee house and she offers her a job to design the law firm. Grace accepts the offer although she just accepted another offer from a retirement home. When she tells Will about her decision, he is enraged, because he cannot believe she is willing to work for the corrupt firm he left. What Grace doesn't know is that Will works at the firm again and takes the job anyways.

Grace and Will are having dinner with Rob and Ellen in a fancy restaurant. Rob and Ellen have big news: they're separating. There they meet Vince, who works there as a waiter. Will thinks it is sad that Vince works as a waiter, but what Will doesn't know is that Vince works as an undercover cop there. Jack and Karen go to a bowling center to meet Tommy, a guy who wrote Jack that he liked his show and that he hasn't had yet the guts to come out as gay. There, some women want Karen to play in their team.

Will bumps into James, whom he met at a theatre the night of the "Sound of Music Sing-Along" and he couldn't stop thinking about the whole time. But, Claire backs out of the faked marriage and James will have to leave the country in a few days. Being disappointed, Will wants to go back to New York. Jack tries to act like a dad making Elliot pay for his irresponsibility, but Elliot doesn't accept Jack as his father.

Grace insists it's no big deal, but Karen insists otherwise and plans an over the top wedding at Will's apartment. With a too tight dress, and Hall and Oates, it all seems too much. Will doubts Grace's willingness to marry a gay man when she faints in the middle of the ceremony and complains of sickness. Grace blames it on the tightness of her dress, and the ceremony finishes with James serenading Will with a Stevie Wonder song. When Grace still feels sick the next day, she goes to the doctor and receives shocking news.

An immediate change comes when the new conservative owners hire Amber-Louise as "JackTalk's" new co-host. After seeing Grace so happy about her pregnancy, Karen decides she wants a baby of her own and offers to pay a make-up lady, Cricket, to carry one for her.

When Will and Grace visit his parent's house, his parents decide to give Grace Will's baby blanket, a tradition they normally do when their other sons are having a baby. Will automatically assumes that they didn't give it to him because he's gay. They later get into a fight. Meanwhile Jack goes to his first audition without Zandra's help. As usual, the audition is for a very minor part. He assumes that because of his lack of creativity, he'll be rejected. He is, but is instead offered a leading role. The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Will finding out that his father died from a heart attack.
