The hosts talk about everything car-related. From new cars to how they're fueled, this show has it all.
Hammond travels to the Texas Motor Speedway for the AAA Texas 500 race to explore the world of NASCAR racing. He's interviewing several NASCAR drivers and also rides along in a NASCAR stock car racer with Kyle Petty. Clarkson reviews the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster. He concludes that is it a modern, flawed, crazed, X-factor German roadster much in the vein of 1960's and 70's-era American muscle cars --- fun because it's just like a wild horsethe challenge is taming it.
The News includes discussion about how health and safety authorities are sticking their noses in and claiming driving is too difficult under any potentially distracting or unideal circumstances, in response to a new and illogical campaign statement about parking safety. T hey also talk about the new 2013 Dodge Viper and the announcement of Renault's new electric car.
James and Jeremy head to Beijing to explore the emerging car industry in China, in response to the assertion that everyone will be driving Chinese cars in five years. National car production levels in China exceed that of all European output combined. However, they discover that there is not much to offer, even now, that seems a match for potential European competitors. The Stig's Chinese cousin appears, and he takes two of the more modern offerings around a track for a spin. May and Clarkson themselves drive the two cars around Beijing and conclude that these cars seem to be much closer to what they should be compared to previous offerings, but still not up to standards in developed markets. To end the show, 3 unknown Chinese presenters finish the show with the bit the boys usually do themselves in the UK. However, it is a chuckle to realize that "bombshell" does not quite translate into Mandarin.

The team head to the North Pole by car - something never before attempted and something they were going to attempt by two different methods. One team composed of Jezza (Jeremy Clarkson) and Captain Slow (James May) in the car and the other team being Hamster (Richard Hammond), Mattie McNair (one of the world's leading sled-dog explorers and racers) and 10 huskie dogs. The car (of course) was a Toyota Hilux kitted out with "Cuban Wheels" (as Jeremy called them), heavy duty suspension, a toughened sump-guard and heavy-duty fog-lamps (which turned out to be as useful as Captain Slow attempting a land-speed record). The dogs insisted on urinating on Hammond and fighting amongst themselves, but were definitely up to the job. Each team would race each other but before they began, the guys were sent to a cold weather training camp to give them an idea of what they'd be facing. A doctor told them what would happen if they forgot to seal their trousers and how to go to the toilet without a polar bear giving them bother but the guys weren't taking him seriously. The next day Jeremy taught Hammond how to ski (despite Hamster's cries of fear) and a man from the British SAS with a distorted face showed Jeremy how cold it could be if he fell through a hole in the ice. Still, the Top Gear crew weren't taking the dangers seriously so legendary explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes was brought in to demonstrate how dangerous this region could be.Eventually though, they were off. With a copious supply of gin, Jezza and Slow blitzed the open ground North of Camp Resolute and left Hamster in their powdered snow in pursuit of the pole. Hammond was the tortoise in this race and fell from his dog-sled with alarming regularity. This was until they reached the legendary 'boulder-fields' - huge lumps of snow and ice that would leave your average semi-detached property cowering in their shadows. As the ice started to crack beneath the wheels of the pickup-truck, the boys started to realize that they should have paid more attention to the warnings they had been given before they set off. What followed was an adventure that involved Icelandic experts, a "bumper-dumper", James May showing off with a pump-action shotgun, a cracked fuel-tank, broken ice, extreme cold, kite-surfing, inflating tyres with explosive gas, Jeremy forgetting that cold metal will stick to your lips, a pointless game of "I-Spy", and more excitement than you could ever expect from your every-day episode of the world's most popular motoring show.

1250 Years of Bond Cars
Richard Hammond pays tribute to 50 years of Bond cars. And our show is, of course, anything but straightforward. Alongside the Goldfinger (1964) DB5, the most iconic Bond car ever has to be the white underwater Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). So, after a few drinks, the crew decided that the best birthday present Top Gear could possibly give would be a working amphibious Lotus, designed using Top Gear Engineering... Elsewhere Richard takes a back seat, and gives the floor to some of the amazing characters who have brought Bond's car moments to life over the past half-century. There are appearances from Guy Hamilton (director of Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever (1971), Live and Let Die (1973) and _The Man With The Golden Gun (1974)_ ), while Roger Moore joins us to tell tales of the fish inside the Lotus Esprit. Daniel Craig - in breaks from filming Skyfall (2012) - also talks about driving with The Stig and reveals his favourite Bond car.
