Rachel comes home with Charlie to see Gene, who has been worried sick.
The Rangers track Fry to his last location and find a shell casing that belongs to a Patriot gun. They find his body in the river with a corresponding bullet wound. They say they need to "do this right" and leave. Monroe and Miles look on from the bushes and Monroe tells him "you wanted a war, you got one."

On the way they come across bodies which appears to be torn apart by animals and she tells him the cadets were responsible. They are in their training area. Shots are fired and Tom and Allenford flee. Tom comes face to face with Jason and has to duck as his son opens fire on him.

Aaron runs into Bonnie Webster, a former Forbes reporter who is part of the press corps following Carver. She says that in Monroe, Carver has caught his Bin Laden.
While in custody Monroe flashes back to
While hiding Allenford tells Tom that Jason is no longer his son, "not anymore." She said the same thing happened to her son back in Cuba. Her husband is Patriot high command and she had no choice but to play a role in the organization. Her son is an officer now but will "never be the same." She thinks the only options are killing Jason or Jason killing the two of them. Miles and Charlie watch as Monroe is moved to the bank. Miles thinks this means they can't get him out and Charlie wonders why the Rangers moved him all of a sudden. Miles goes to Rachel, who confirms that she tipped the Patriots off to the potential jail break. Rachel says she doesn't want to lose another child, but Charlie counters that her mother hasn't even asked her how she's doing. Monroe is sentenced to death by lethal injection.
Tom is able to sneak up on Jason and puts a gun to his head. This leads to a fight and Jason very quickly gets the better of his father. Jason starts choking Tom to death and it is only Allenford coming up from behind with a pipe that keeps from Tom from dying.
Monroe flashes to the birth of his child. The delivery starts to go poorly and Miles is told to bring water and towels. He grabs Tom to help him. When Miles and Tom return Monroe collapses in his arms covered with blood.
Monroe is given one last request and he asks for Miles. Monroe tells Miles the Patriots probably know Miles' real identity. Monroe wants to shake hands and say good-bye. Before Miles leaves Monroe tells him that he has a son he's never met before. He wants Miles to find him and take care of him. Miles said he knew about the son and hid his existence from Monroe. Miles said he did it because "nobody was safe around you," and Monroe goes crazy with rage.
Monroe is brought the area where his execution will take place. Carver and Truman are seated in the front row. Gene tells Monroe that he's being asked to prepare him for execution, adding that "it's an honor."
We flash back to Monroe having become an increasingly sadistic military leader. Miles is shocked when Monroe tells him of a massacre.
Just before the injection Monroe apologizes to Gene. Monroe shakes and appears to die. Gene closes Monroe's eyes with his fingers and checks for a pulse. A bell sounds.
Jason wakes up and finds himself tied to a chair. He's been drugged and Tom says they're going to wait until he comes out of this state. Jason responds by accusing his mother of being unfaithful. Tom says Jason is "still my son."
Monroe is buried.
Webster tells Aaron she doesn't think the Rangers are smart enough to have tracked down Monroe. She thinks he was "handed to them."
We see a meeting between Gene and Truman. Gene has been keeping tabs on everyone's activity and reporting to the Patriots. Truman is irritated by Rachel, but Gene makes it clear the Patriots are not to touch Rachel, Charlie and Miles.
We see Rachel walk to Monroe's grave and starts digging.
7The Patriot Act
We open with Rachel digging up Monroe and telling him "don't move." He's brought to a house just outside of Willoughby where we learn that Rachel gave him enough barbiturates to make it seem like he was dead. Monroe is groggy, sounding almost drunk, but he should be okay in a few days.
Aaron and Cynthia walk down the street arguing over the restrictions the Patriots are placing on their teaching. Suddenly a bomb blows up the building just behind them. They are okay but dozens of people are badly injured.

Truman addresses Willoughby, telling everybody that another outside element has infiltrated the town but they are doing their best to find who is responsible.
A Dr. Calvin Horn arrives in town, wanting to speak with Rachel. He worked with her back at the Defense Department and is now the President's chief science advisor. He's responsible for the Wanted poster with Rachel's name, saying he wanted to seek her out for info on the nanotech. He's there because of the two men who burst into flames and thinks it's possible the nanotech could be engineered to release the energy it stores. Rachel says she's not responsible but Horn doesn't seem convinced.
Rachel and Miles warn Aaron about Horn snooping around. They suggest he disappear and let Monroe take care of him. He demands they find a way for Cynthia to come with him. We see that Gene is listening to this entire conversation through a grate in the next room.
SEVEN YEARS AFTER BLACKOUT -- Gene and dozens others stand over a mass grave and lights the bodies on fire. Gene walks back to his home and finds a man waiting for him. Jason stands up and shows his cuffs, saying he's a Patriot and a captive. He walks towards the cadets and calls for Tom to come out. Jason has killed the two cadets who were firing on them.
Aaron and Cynthia prepare to leave.
Shaw walks into Gene's office and tells him Horn wants to see him. Horn wants to know about Aaron. Horn wants to know how he was able to come back to life after Gene pronounced him dead. Horn thinks the explanation must be nanotech and wants to know how Rachel did it. Horn can't find Aaron and wants information from Gene. Gene is having doubts about his work with the Patriots but Horn reminds him of his past. Horn says if Gene doesn't give him information he'll start killing townspeople while he watches. Gene tells Horn and Shaw that Aaron is the one controlling the machines, not Rachel. Horn asks again for Aaron's location.
Horn and several Patriots wait around the corner while Gene waits for Aaron and Cynthia. The couple is a no-show.
We see that Miles and Rachel are watching this from afar with binoculars. Miles had suspected that Gene was working with the Patriots. Miles figured out that Gene must have been supplying them with info for some time.

He wonders if Rachel and Miles ever did something they weren't proud of to save people. Gene doesn't want her forgiveness, but tells them to run. They hear Truman outside with his men.
Gene goes outside and tells Truman Horn promised to lave his daughter alone. Truman wants Miles. Gene then pulls a knife on Truman, but it doesn't last very losing. The distractions does allow Miles, Rachel and Charlie manage to flee out the back.
As quickly as Horn can make large cuts in Aaron's arm, that's as quick as they heal. Horn wants to know why this happened to Aaron and wants him to teach him how he's doing it. Aaron says he doesn't understand. Horn responds that he has a brain tumor and this is his hope for survival.
