The peaceful existence of the small New Jersey town of Point Pleasant dramatically changes forever when 17-year-old Christina Nickson is rescued from the ocean by local lifeguard Jesse Parker during a sudden and violent summer storm. Christina is brought to the home of the Kramers. Ben Kramer is a local doctor while his wife, Meg, and their teenage daughter, Judy, take an instant liking to Christina and invite her stay with them as she searches for clues to her past and attempts to find her mother, a Point Pleasant native whom Christina never knew. Meg Kramer is an emotionally troubled woman having never gotten over the death of her eldest daughter, Isabelle, killed in a surfing accident two years earlier. Unbeknownst to Christina, her presence in the town is having a profound effect on its inhabitants: awakening repressed feelings, unlocking secret desires and heightening emotions. As Christina seeks answers to her mother's disappearance, her father Kingston, based in New York, is told by his business associate, Lucas Boyd, that Christina is the offspring of a mortal woman and the Devil. Meanwhile, tensions flare up between Jesse, who finds himself inexplicably drawn to Christina, and his best friend Terry, who secretly lusts after Jesse's possessive girlfriend Paula. Paula's scheming, hot-to-trot mother, Amber, attempts to rekindle her relationship with the good Dr. Kramer. Also, long-buried secrets kept by Jesse's parents, the domineering and hot-tempered police captain Logan and the God-fearing Sarah, begin to surface.

Lucas tells Kingston Nickson, the businessman Christina believes to be her father, his part is finished now she's in the town prophesied to be the starting point of unseen evil, her real father shall see to it and her, regardless of her mother's good genes. However the older Father David, who tried to make Tomas, who shows him the intertwined 666-symbol she drew, believe his predecessor father Jensen's prophetic writings are missing nonsense, digs the bundle up in church himself and brings it to Dr. Ben Kramer's yacht at the annual heritage week costumed boat parade, but black faith sees it turns out to become his floating funeral pyre. Meanwhile Lucas moves into a grand villa and is an instant hit with the doctor's and jealous sheriff's wives; Paula strips 'for diagnosis' in Ben's office and threatens to concoct a story about a bruise when he refuses to get intimate...
3Whos Your Daddy?
Boyd keeps working on Amber to make her his accomplice in 'buying the town' and uses his mind-power to make the traffic lights cause Judi having a non-fatal accident, hit by rich prick Preston Hodges who intends to sue Dr. Ben Kramer for his own minor injury, planting enough hatred in Ben's soul to attack him, the light-tower and Christina stop him just before he hits badly. Mother Kramer has irresistible urges to tell her guide tour audience the gruesome historical truth, even about syphilis, and asks her husband sheriff Logan finally to forget her infidelity twenty years ago. Christina's 'dad' tells her she has to become adult, without him, and may not resist her fate. Father Tomas is too frightened now he senses evil so close to stand Christina's presence when she tells him in church she thinks Lucas's arrival started the events including the priest killing, but gets over it later and insists her touch made him feel enough love to resist his own parish heritage which dictates to destroy her in the upcoming fight against darkness, her origin. Jesse is restless, Christina makes him doubt whether his future is in Point Pleasant or they are destined for better.
4The Lonely Hunter
A meteor shower unexpectedly approaching by Independence Day seems to cause strange events, such as a long line for confessions, including a rude infidel telling father Thomas he must commit an unspeakable act, a girl-murder, as God's instrument, before running off. Socialite Amber helps Lucas Boyd buy up Point Pleasant properties and inviting for meteor watching at Lucas's the Parkers and the Kramers, whose marriage she promised to break up. When Jesse refuses to blame Christina for their relationship going sour, let alone to avoid her, jealous Paula dumps him after two years, yet rudely turns down again Terry -who at home tries to make his dad David better beyond doctor's orders- and makes a scene about Jesse 'embarrassing' her at the nightly beach party by talking to Christina, who wasn't chased by Paula's mignon Lucinda, who is kidnapped by the lurking infidel, actually local Dr. Forrester, who next offers Lucinda to startled Christina as a 'first sacrifice', saying he realizes now he worshipped the wrong power, he only wants no more guilt over his sadistic tendencies and promises her an army and unlimited power, but she takes him to Jesse's so Logan can arrest him. At Boyd's party, frisky wife Meg makes Ben uncomfortable, and Logan nearly attacks Lucas after finding his wife's missing bracelet in Boyd's bedroom, yet she denies everything...
5Last Dance
Boyd offers to help Amber coordinate a church fund-raising dance marathon in the hopes of sweeping Sarah off her feet and putting some of his past demons to rest. Frequent flashbacks show Boyd, un-aged back in 1934 at a similar dance marathon with his girlfriend, Holly, whom he murdered after finding she was cheating on him. Meanwhile, Meg and Amber's friendship puts Ben on edge as he tries to keep them apart knowing Amber is using Meg to get closer to him. Back at the dance, Boyd and his sinister assistant, Wes, cause more turmoil as they set up the participants against each other by paring Judy with geekish Mark Owens, Christina with Terry, and Jesse with Paula. Judy sees Christina in a new light as her mystic powers begin to surface when Paula continues to be the object of Christina's fury. As a result, Christina's anger turns the dance into a literal bloodbath and brings it to a crashing halt.
6Secrets and Lies
Amber tries to break up Ben and Meg by suggestion. Sheriff Logan Parker knocks a man down just for offering to settle a minor car collision without even exchanging insurance papers as legally required; when Sarah finds out, she tells Lucas, worrying her husband still doubts her fidelity, next the commissioner suspends sheriff Logan after a tip, which he soon finds out to be Sarah's while rudely refusing father Thomas's marriage counseling on her request, yet they make up. When Christina confesses her evil tendencies to father Thomas, he insists they must find her mother An Gibson, the key to her good, human side and finds Dr. Beverly Kendrick, who ran the halfway house where unmarried mothers like An went; a dead-end, but when she confronts the doc she admits having delivered Christina and given her to the men who 'overprotected' An, then jumps to her death. Lucas orders Amber to keep buying all local real estate despite the high prices, then plays on Terry's poor boy jealousy and dad Burke's expensive medical condition. Judy convinces Jesse Christina's arrival started to make everything go bad; they follow Christina into Kendrick's hospital's records basement. David Burke speaks up for the first time in years, to tell Terry he needs a son who isn't a coward but helps him die- by killing dad, later apologizes, he wants to set both free from his hopeless disease; Terry believes it's Lucas's doing and accepts to do anything for restoring pa's health. Jesse confronts his parents, furious after reading his birth certificate at the hospital- strict dad Logan isn't his real father.
7Unraveling
Furious Jesse calls his mother and undeclaredly 'adoptive' stepfather Logan unforgivable hypocrites, packs and takes the first bus out of town, finding Christine on it, kicked out by Judy. They share each-others unsettling discoveries, decide to stay together and kiss. Looking for more secrets to break up Ben and Meg, Amber witnesses her getting hallucinations, like after Isabelle's death. Grateful for his dad's improvement, Terry reports for duty to Lucas, pleasantly surprised by the perks, including a red sports car and a designer dress for his girlfriend, his permanent orders being to make friends. Logan insists to Sarah they now should tell Jesse, if he returns, the whole truth. The bus crashes in the rain, heroic Jesse sees even a crushed passenger gets out; she dies but Christina's touch revives her, to say 'You can't leave'. Meg drags her infidel family back to church, terrified by Lucas, sees him there and publicly raves at him so Ben must get her out. Christina decides to return, lovingly welcomed by Ben, she fails to make Jesse stay but the bus has to return anyway. After watching Ben's video, Amber tells Lucas she won't continue and is threatened.
8Swimming with Boyd
Lucas Boyd is dangerously anxious to prevent Christina having any allies, making sure Meg needs Ben's medical help for her worsening mental condition. Jesse tells Christina he has decided to stay- at least till he makes sense of recurring youth memories. Host Terry asks Jesse to check on his sick dad David while he must house-sit that evening; the two renew their old friendship, while Terry gathers the courage to reject Paula as gold-digger, but his hurt emotion only turns her on straight into love-making. At the junkyard of his nightmare, Jesse discovers he bled to death as a kid that night, and makes ma Sara admit he was dead for seven hours, according to her surviving to do God's work. Father Tomás implores Christina to resist violence but she refuses to hold hands in pure friendship. Judy pretends to believe Lucas's claim he minds crazy Christina for her pa, so they can tie him up drugged with truth serum, but he wins the taunting game masterly and makes her waste her right to spare a single mortal on Judy, next morning father Tomás is crushed by the church crucifix.
10Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman Choked
Jesse experiences he's invulnerable to fire, but only in Christina's presence, and turns to father Matthew, who convinces him he may be born for a miraculous purpose but shouldn't confide in anyone else. Terry learns Wes isn't quite happy in Boyd's service. Holly, the woman Boyd strangled 70 years ago, is his Achilles-heal, and tries anything to make him suffer; she even convinces Wes to jump over his head in the boss's eyes by taking care of Jesse, the key to controlling Christina, himself: the boy is kidnapped and buried alive. Judi accepts a date with the mysterious Nick, who is suddenly called away. Amber shows the Isabella tape to crazy Meg, who now feels her husband Ben shouldn't 'protect' her but accept it as the way to get their suicide daughter back. Christina learns Terry works for Boyd, warns him, overhears Lucas's love for Holly and plays a three-ways game of bluff and emotional blackmail based on torturing Holly, determined to save her true love at any cost- is this the way to turn her evil? Meanwhile father Matthews and Nick have already dug up Jesse...
11Missing
Jesse finds himself in the hands of the seven Christian zealots lead by father Matthew and 'captain' Graham, including Nick, who claim only Jesse can help their covenant prevent the Apocalypse starting in Point Pleasant by killing the Antichrist, Christina. Gentle Jesse seems to agree, but runs and knocks them all down without killing anyone, then gets Terry to give him the keys of his dad's car and promise to tell nobody he's going to hide in the Burkes hunting cabin. However Christina was hiding in the backseat, takes control over the car supernaturally but obeys his command to stop. While worrying, police chief Logan investigates mysterious disappearances of harmless people, who seem linked only by the parish confessional. Meg visits old David Burke and convinces him his destiny is to brave his disease as 'perfect soldier'. Terry finds his dad risen from bed and gone; Ben discovering this decides him to have Meg committed to psych ward, despite but fearing for Judy. Meanwhile, Amber tries to separate Paula from Terry after catching them in bed 'as long as he works for Boyd', which only drives the kids in each-others arms, next Lucas warns Terry everything good that happened to him in Boyd's service can be taken away from him, even Paula, unless he tells the boss where Jesse is. Elsewhere, Lucas gets to the duo in time for their confrontation with the seven zealots, and when a fight ensues makes arrows hit both Nick -he'll stamp the boy dead afterward- and Jesse, whose fatal wound heals magically later when he pulls the arrow out in startled Christina's presence once they have escaped to a motel, while Lucas remains with the six survivors. Christina makes love to Jesse, but just that triggers in him a vivid vision of her as apocalyptic Antichrist, convincing him to drive away from her.
12Mothers Day
Now Jesse has abandoned her, Christina turns to Boyd, who claims to be the last one who wants to save her life. Shattered now his father is gone, and fearing he's dead by now, Terry tells Boyd their deal is off, but is ordered to stay and do his part. Amber's intervention isn't Lucas's fault and who else can the kid turn to? Meanwhile, Jesse has turned to the Believers, promising to do their work that night, after seeing some people, he goes to stepfather Logan, who can't get any answers about the epidemic of disappearances, now including Jesse's. Father Matthews who invokes the absolute secret of confession, but accepts not to confront Boyd, instead Jesse will asks Terry, who refuses him entry, assuring Sarah isn't there, admits he betrayed the cabin to Boyd, but noble Jesse refuses to 'punish' his guilty mate and leaves. Christina's powers increase, making plants wilt in her presence, but then her long-searched mother Ann Gibson turns up and takes her to a cabin where she tells her how Kingston seduced her, but an invisible diabolic beast raped her. One of the believers, Boyd's driver, shoots him, but diabolic resurrection and healing take less then a minute, he arrives in time to stop Anne inviting to prayer. Here Annie admits to Boyd and Christine that since childbirth her only desire is to kill the Antichrist.... Christine! Jesse returns to the believers, is blessed by father Matthews, while Graham doubts if he's ready, and to his surprise gets the weapon from his own mother Sara he never suspected to be one on them. Elsewhere, Paula fails to make Amber help find Terry's father, but she does buy Meg's release from Dr. Evett's psychiatry. Ben is convinced her return is wrong, but then hellish hurricane Christina (now fully consumed by evil) bursts into the house unstoppable.

Holly manages to drug him and lock him up handcuffed in the basement, but for this he burns himself loose. In chapel, David Burke's ghost tells Jesse God's command not to kill overrules all book theories, yet he accepts the blessed blade for his mission and swears not to be mislead by target Christina's emotional manipulation. Meanwhile, Sherif Logan learns the missing people left their entire estate to the parish and finds the covenant in the church cellars. He's knocked down, but escapes in time to stop father Mathews celebrating the ritual stabbing of Sarah and her six fellow covenant members during mass. Boyd is in time to talk to Christina before Jesse arrives, believes her emotionally still vulnerable and attacks the anointed hero himself with a mallet, but he is the one left disabled. Inside, Jesse surprises Christina by tapping into the power her touch gives him before pointing at her, rather then the blade, the disarming power of love: he actually kneels offering his throat to be slit if she has no love for him, before stabbing the Antichrist, but to which effect?
