1Pilot
Following graduation, Nick Garrett promises his love Hannah to return after six weeks in Europe. But he never does. Ten years later he is the author of a best-seller based on his home town and many of his former friends. Nick goes back for a weekend to lecture at the college and revives his friendships with his buddies (except for Eddie his best friend.) Nick is also unable to heal the breach his broken promise made in his relationship with Hannah, who has moved on with her ten-year old son Sam and is in a relationship with a man none of Nick's friends thought was worth anything while they were growing up.
2The Pros and Cons of Upsetting the Applecart
Nick decides to stay in Knights Ridge because he thinks Sam is his son. He asks Dean Etwood for a teaching job at the college but she scornfully declines. Aubrey encourages him to keep trying, but even his buddies aren't sure he should be staying. Eddie is interested in Aubrey, but she realizes it's only to aggravate Nick.
3Tomorrows So Far Away
Sam asks Nick for help in getting the attention of a girl he likes in school. Big Cat wants to move his and Hannah's relationship forward, but Hannah realizes that her feelings for Nick have reemerged. Eddie takes Janet on a date, but Janet doubts whether he is serious about her. Phil is surprised when the pizza delivery girl reveals that she has a crush on him and is not sure how to reconcile the concept of dating with his habit of never leaving the house.
4Secrets and Guys
Nick is about to start a relationship with Aubrey when Dean Etwood warns him against dating a student. Nick and his brother Ronnie discover that their father is dating for the first time since their mother died, but Nick is even more surprised when he learns who he's seeing. Ikey is having cold feet about his relationship with Owen's wife Alison. Eddie asks Janet to go to a party along with his friends, but he has cold feet of his own. Big Cat is upset by losing Hannah and takes it out on his surroundings. Phil has Pizza Girl over for dinner and surprises her with his romantic skills.
5Forever Until Now
Sam saw Aubrey and Nick kissing and sped off on his bike. Soon he fell and injured himself. Sam is taken to hospital. When Nick and Aubrey, Owen and Alison, and Ikey make it there, The Commander and Dean Leslie tell them doctors suspect internal bleeding. Janet is with them and Hannah is with Sam. The accident was caused by something that Sam had eaten. Something with peanuts which Sam is allergic to. To his horror, Owen realizes that he was the one who fed the cake to Sam. Meanwhile, Physical Phil and Pizza Girl are enjoying each other's company. A fraternity moves in the house next door and the first guy Phil and Pizza Girl encounter is already thinking about her aloud and trying to flirt with her. The doctors tell Hannah that Sam needs surgery and she has a hard time dealing with the situation. The Commander, Dean and Aubrey leave, so Hannah naturally seeks comfort from Nick. Janet encounters Eddie, who tries to apologize for blowing her off at the party. Janet does not want to talk to him, but allows him to come along while she fetches Sam's teddy walrus. Owen confesses to Hannah and Nick. Sam's surgery begins.
6Best Friend Windows
Eddie tries to get Janet to talk about what happened at the party, but she doesn't want to listen to him. Physical Phil orders pizza, hoping to see Pizza Girl again. But she sends a replacement. In order to see her, Phil would have to leave the house... In a band session, Ray, Owen and Ikey question Nick about his love triangle with Aubrey and Hannah. Nick has to ask himself: who does he really want? Ray is stealing Eddie's customers, but Nick has a plan to get even. Hannah asks Alison to join her and Janet in a girl talk session. Ray tells Owen a devastating secret that's been kept from him.
1Lets Get Owen
Hannah is thinking about what to do after Nick's declaration of love towards her. Nick and Eddie are in New York to bring Owen back to his family - a task which won't be easy to achieve since his brother is hell bent on Owen staying in New York. It turns out that Nick has a house sitter Eddie immediately feels attracted to. Meanwhile, back at Knights Ridge, Janet wallows in speculation of what Eddie might be up to in New York. Alison, on the other hand, is suffering from people judging her based upon her cheating on Owen. Ray offers Ikey a job as an apology after revealing his and Alison's affair, but Ikey refuses. He visits Physical Phil, who declares that for Ikey's violation of "the code" there is no absolution.
2How to Kiss Hello
Nick wakes up happy and optimistic, but soon loses his job and is turned down by Hannah. Hannah has Ray over for dinner, and he brings a ring in a box. Aubrey returns, and it turns out she has written a book that seems to include Nick as a character. Homecoming approaches, and with it the anniversary of Eddie's legendary high school touchdown, but Eddie wants to exchange the usual adoring girls with a relationship with Janet.
3The Infidelity Tour
To find out if he can forgive his wife, Owen makes Nick act as guide on an "infidelity tour" of the places where she and Ikey carried out their affair. For Nick, the tour triggers memories of happy times with Hannah before he left town. Meanwhile, Sam doesn't respond well to the big changes in his life caused by Hannah's wedding plans with Big Cat.
4Deck the Howls
It's Christmas, and Hannah is preparing a big Christmas dinner, but not everything works out as planned. Janet thinks she has the perfect gift for Eddie, but she makes a memorable mistake. Owen finds the holiday spirit with Alison, but is he ready to trust her again? Phil's parents come to town to be with their son, who they still think is a hotshot architect who travels the world, but then Pizza Girl drops by unannounced. Nick is eager to celebrate with his family, but his father isn't pleased. It becomes a Christmas of old memories and revelations.
5Once Around the Block
Nick thinks his brother Ronnie needs help with ladies and tries to set him up with a friend of Aubrey's. Instead Ronnie falls for Aubrey, who in turn is eager to resume her relationship with Nick. Hannah meets Christine Cataldo, Ray's surgeon ex-wife, who is set on winning back Ray's affections. Pizza Girl is introduced to Phil's garage project, an old, bright red Studebaker, and challenges him to take her for a spin.
6Revenge of the Cupcake Kid
The band is auditioning for a drummer. The local elementary school is getting renovated and they need windows. Nick and Eddie go to see the man in charge, Carter Bump. Turns out that he's really pissed at Nick who wrote a series of comic books called The Cupcake Kid when they were in high school. Carter was the titular character, who got superpowers from eating cupcakes. Carter throws Nick and Eddie out. Owen reveals that Carter now has a side job as Plumpy the Clown. He tries to talk Carter into giving Nick and Eddie the contract. Nobody will hire Ikey. The Commander suggests Ikey call together a tribunal to get him "back in the fold". Hannah, Ray, Janet and Eddie are about to go out on a double date, but then Ray's pal Matt provokes Eddie who punches him. The date is off.
7Spelling It Out
The Commander is not into the others' idea of having a viewing party for the televised spelling contest final where the local kid Jimmy might have a shot at winning. Pizza Girl learns that Jimmy's brother Allen is spiritually broken for having had to live in his little brother's shadow ever since he was 9 and Jimmy was 4. Janet is insecure about her relationship with Eddie. Ronnie overhears Aubrey saying "I love you" to someone over the phone and tells about it to Nick. He questions Aubrey about it and she tells it was just her way of saying "thank you" when her computer guy has managed to salvage 200 pages of deleted text from her hard drive. Then The Commander sees Aubrey getting out of a man's car and going into an alley to cry for some reason. He tells about it to Nick, whose suspicions increase.
8Dancing Days Are Here Again
Nick decides to face the man that Aubrey went to meet. Turns out it was her father! Dean tries to lure the Commander to take her dancing. Hannah invites Ikey to have dinner with her, Sam and Ray. Ikey mentions that Ray has talked about adopting Sam and Hannah is not happy that Ray hasn't kept the matter private. Allison tells Owen that she is going out on a date so Owen claims that he already has been on several dates. He then has to solve the problem of finding a date whose existence can actually be proven. Pizza Girl suggests her "earthly" friend Bethany, Phil suggests Jody Watson, his personal service rep at the cable company and Eddie suggests a sexy and divorced Vanessa. Pizza Girl bets $50 that her candidate is the right one, and Eddie and Phil accept it.
9We Lived Like Giants
Nick reveals to Owen that Aubrey's dad is "a marked man". The conversation turns to Fate and Owen says that one can mould one's fate like he does by trying to find the woman who saved his life. Which proves more difficult than he thought. Janet invites Pizza Girl to a girl's night out with her and Hannah. Hannah's baby sitter has become unavailable so Eddie and Phil have to substitute. The Commander has an appointment with an oncologist, which gives him the urge to join his sons, Owen, Aubrey and her dad on their trip. Hannah is having problems with decisions concerning the wedding.
10Hat? No Hat?
Ray's business has benefited from their TV commercial, so Nick decides that they should have one too. Phil conceives it and Nick says he'll finance it. However, to his surprise, Nick learns that he's broke. So he has to apply for a bank loan. Which he can't get. Owen gets to go out on a date with the girl of his dreams, Jenny. He just has to make a difficult decision first: hat or no hat? Hannah's parents cause her trouble during their visit. Pizza Girl's home assignment from her painting course is to paint someone close to her in the nude.
11Stand Alone by Me
There are flashbacks to 18 years earlier when Nick, Eddie, Owen, Phil and Ikey got saved from Ray's gang by a slingshot-using girl, Angela (There are similarities to Stephen King's 'Stand by Me' and 'It'.). In the present, Nick manages to distance Aubrey from him without realizing how, Pizza Girl is not interested in watching a movie with Phil, Eddie gets Janet upset when he does not want to go to a nursing home to see Janet's grandparents. Then Nick reads from a paper that Angela has died.
12The Fine Art of Surfacing
Eddie's high school sweetheart Rory is back in town after a failed marriage, and Eddie is not cold to her advances. Janet gets nervous and makes a rash decision of her own. Hannah and Ray's engagement spurs Christine Cataldo's rage, and she has Hannah arrested for assaulting her and announces her intention to seek full custody of her children. Nick's agent comes to town in his limo to get Nick to accept an offer from rock band U2 to chronicle their world tour. Nick's father is diagnosed with cancer, but has a hard time dealing with the reality of the disease.
13As Soon as You Are Able
Eddie is in the hospital after being assaulted by Ray's crew. Ray thanks Ikey for stepping in and taking Eddie to the hospital, but is Ray as innocent as he acts? Hannah talks to Christine about their mutual relationship and invites her to the engagement party. Janet learns the truth about Eddie's evening with Rory and knows that she must tell him the truth about her night with Rooster. Nick has accepted the offer to go on tour with U2, but his surroundings are not happy that he should leave town again just as his father has been diagnosed with cancer.
