She points out that Lewis can hear him and tells Stan he'll be fine. She puts in an earpiece.Stan gets a call from the Mayor as Marshall checks nearby buildings. He sees people on the roof of a parking structure. Marshall sees one of them has some kind of scope. He takes off running for it. They fill Mary in and she remains calm. Their snipers can't take the shot until the threat is confirmed. Mary blocks Lewis with her body. He tells her it'd be stupid to get herself killed for a dead man.
We see through the scope and hear a man try to will Mary to get out of the way so he can get his shot.Marshall runs up behind them. It's Janice and her cameraman. She got a good look at a Marine Force Recon tattoo on Lewis' arm. She asks Lewis if he ever thinks about the people he killed and if there's some trick for dealing with it. He says he doesn't discuss it with people who haven't been through it.
She tells him about being kidnapped a few weeks ago and the man she killed. She remembers the look after he'd been hit, like she was looking at a scared little boy. She can't get that face out of her head.Lewis says every soldier who's been through that is haunted by the realization they've killed some mother's little boy. You can't do anything about it, it just becomes part of you.Mary turns her radio back on when they hear movement. He rolls his eyes but lets her talk. She introduces herself and tells the group about the lie she told and why she told it. She says they were all really nice to her and she's sorry for coming there and lying to them. She chokes back tears and apologizes again, saying she thinks it's a great thing they have going on there. Peter watches her leave.Mary watches as the nearby construction workers all clear out except one. Mary says she has a bad feeling about it as Marshall goes running inside. The floor explodes, Marshall stumbles out, coughing up dust, but OK. He says the blast took out the stairway, the only way in.In the rubble Mary has her gun drawn as the dust clears. He knew what he was getting into when he signed up and it turns her stomach that she has to protect him.Mary continues on Lewis as Stan and Marshall figure she's stalling for time and see Lewis' vitals go up as he gets worked up.Harry picks up on what Mary's saying, talking about the 17 people who died to send a message. When he's done, Mary picks up her walkie talkie and asks if they got it all. Yep.

As Mary takes Harry into custody he tells her he meant what he said, that your partner is the only thing that matters.Mary goes to Raph's after a long day. Janice's report about Harry and Lewis plays on the TV. Raph asks if that's where she's been all this time. She says it was crowd control, clean up, "boring stuff."

7Duplicate Bridge
At the scene of a the Beaumont Bridge collapse in Omaha, Nebraska. Reporters accost the designer, Norman Baker, asking what could have gone wrong. He says he doesn't know.Five months later he testifies in court, with Marshall and Mary looking on. He testifies that he later found out that the bridge came down because some of its parts were of lesser quality and not to his specifications. The defendant glares at him as the defense lawyer points to Baker's signature on the plans. He says it's not his.The defendant Carl Hogeland, denies he did anything wrong. Baker testifies he went into witness protection because the day after the collapse Carl came to him and said they could either get on the same page or Baker would disappear.Norman Baker enters the program as Norman Danzer.Mary and Marshall take Norman out of court. He wants to stay for the verdict, but they try to prepare him for life as Norman Danzer.A news report announces that Carl was found not guilty. Norman is shocked. On TV, Carl says Norman made a mistake. Norman uses big engineering words to explain to Marshall how he didn't mess up, clearly bothered that his name hasn't been cleared.Norman asks to go to the bathroom but shortly after they find him on the balcony. He explains that standing in high places helps him build bridges in his mind to relax. No, he's not planning on killing himself, he says. Why would he, he didn't do anything wrong? he says.Present Day
Mary and Marshall arrive at work, where Eleanor is very excited to show off her brand new stapler. Marshall shares her enthusiasm. Sexy office supplies.
A package arrives for Marshall. It's ribs for Norman from Omaha. Marshall is going to visit him and, using ribs as a lure, gets Mary to go along. He's not eager to see them. They invite themselves in under the guise of ribs but aren't happy to find a model of a bridge and signed plans with his old name on them. They take them and some of the ribs. The next day, Mary comes out to find Brandi picking her teeth next to a plate of rib bones. She needs Mary's help with a paper for English class, in which she has to write from the point of view of a family member, but Mary is busy.At work, Marshall gets an alert from the Albuquerque PD that Norman's car was found abandoned on a bridge. Suicide is suspected. At the scene they find a suicide note in his glove compartment. Marshall doesn't think it seems right. They go back to the office to run down possible suspects. Hogeland's at the top of the list along with Thomas Hanson, a man who lost his wife and child in the collapse and another victim who threatened Norman once.Marshall checks out Norman's house. All his folders and files are missing. He finds a wooden box with a note from Norman inside, telling him the drafting tools and the stereo are for him. Marshall starts to believe Norman might have really killed himself. There's a ring at the doorbell. It's a young woman looking for Steven Mayberry. She describes someone who looks like Norman and works at Chemicals & Toxins and has for nine months. She says he quit two days ago. She has his stuff from his locker. Norman's face is on the ID badge. At the office Mary and Marshall go through Norman/Steven's things. Marshall now thinks he was up to something and wouldn't off himself in the middle of a plan. Eleanor reports that Norman's bank records show he withdrew $60,000 two days ago. And Stan says a flight manifest show Steven Mayberry flew to Omaha that morning. The memorial for the one year anniversary of the bridge collapse is the next day.Off to Nebraska they go. Mary and Marshall visit Carl Hogeland, telling him they think he's in danger. He declines protection and insists on going to the memorial.Brandi calls Mary, feeling stood up. Mary tries to apologize, but gets hung up on.Carl gives a speech at the memorial the next day as Mary and Marshall and a few other agents try to look inconspicuous. They spy a man putting together what could be a rifle sight and take him down. It's a photographer. Carl's peeved they ruined an important day for him.Marshall gets a call. Norman's been arrested. They go to get him. But it's not Norman. It's Thomas Hanson dressed in Norman's clothes. At first, he denies being Hanson.
Then he tells Marshall that a month ago Norman showed up on his doorstep to apologize. He says Norman must have left his jacket then and that's how he ended up in it. Marshall points out that might be believable, but he saw Norman in the same jacket two days ago.Thomas says Norman came to see him the night before. He said if Thomas did this, all the families hurt by the bridge collapse would get their justice. Mary and Marshall are called to Hogeland's office, from that diversion. It has been ransacked. And Carl is missing. They call Brandi to have her look at the plans in Mary's trunk. They have the name of Norman's first bridge.Mary and Marshall race there to find that Norman has tied Carl to the bridge and is holding a gun on him, refusing to let him go until he tells the truth. Then they see he's holding a trigger switch.
The bridge is rigged with explosives.
Norman has a video tape set up on Carl. He shoots his ear to get him to talk. Carl says his contract included a $1 million early completion bonus. He changed the plans so that he could get the bridge finished on time. He says he's truly sorry, even if Norman doesn't believe him.Norman cuts Carl loose, but keeps his hand on the blast switch. He faces the camera. He says after a year of research he found that Carl was right in that the bad materials weren't the only cause of the collapse. He used the wrong numbers and that contributed to the collapse.
He's designed 26 bridges in his career, including the one he's standing on, also built with the same wrong numbers he's always used. He says unfortunately he'll have to leave the demolition of the others to someone else.Marshall tries to talk to Norman, saying we all fail at times. He chokes up, asking Norman not to quit. Norman starts counting down from ten, saying he can't go from being someone who was never wrong to someone who was never right.Marshall looks fondly and hopelessly at his witness. He says to Mary that it's time to go. Mary can't believe Marshall is quitting. She tries to talk to Norman, saying she's not going. But Marshall says it's time. He knows his witness. He drags Mary away as Norman counts down "two, one..." and the bridge goes up in a spectacular explosion, taking Norman -- and only Norman -- with it.On the drive home, Marshall helps Brandi complete her paper, talking for Mary, saying that Mary doesn't understand that failure is a part of life. The part that teaches us things and the part that hurts.
11Jailbait
Miami, Florida, 18 months agoCarmen, a beautiful woman, hangs off the arm of her husband Jesus, as she tells him he should get the harbor contract. They're with a group of other couples, saying good bye at the end of the night. When Jesus' friends get in their cars and drive off, he yells at Carmen for embarrassing him in front of his boss, Felix Calderon, by asking him for a job. She gets in his face in front of their teenage daughter, saying someone should stand up in the family. She calls him Calderon's "little bitch."He tells her to shut up, then he sees someone coming and shoves his daughter into a waiting car.Two men walk toward him, guns, drawn. She runs for the restaurant.Jesus sees the men they were with earlier circle by in a black car.
Then Olivia sees her mother Carmen, dead by the restaurant door.Jesus and Olivia Moreno enter the program as Jesus and Olivia Morales.Marshall and Mary settle the new Morales into their new apartment. Olivia isn't happy. Her bedroom is smaller than her closet back home. The Marshalls mention the wanted ads and Olivia mumbles something about anyone being the market for hired muscle. Mary tells Jesus how fast his daughter adjusts will depend on how he handles it.Mary helps Olivia unpack but finds a photo of the girl's mother in her things. She reminds her of the rules. She yells at her dad, saying it's his fault. Marshall says they're there because of Calderon, not her father.
"Actually," she says, hatefully, "I'm here because the men Calderon hired to kill my father were lousy shots."Mary tells her in a year Calderon will be in jail and they'll be in a better place. Jesus promises his daughter he'll get her back everything they had before.
She tells him to let her know when he gets her mother back.Present Day
Raphael cooks breakfast, as Mary runs to answer the door. She tells her boyfriend there's an angry looking Hispanic man at the door, repeatedly ringing the bell. He answers the door. It's his mom, Josephina (in a ballcap and sunglasses, not otherwise looking manly). She tells Mary to call her "Mama."
She came early. Mary had no idea she was coming. At the office, Mary talks to Raph on the phone, asking what in their relationship led him to believe surprising her was a good idea.
She gets off the phone, weighing in as Eleanor sets up hotel accommodations for a witness.
Mary's cell phone rings. It's Olivia. She's hysterical. The line goes dead. Mary and Marshall run out. They bust into the Morales' place (the same apartment) and find Jesus laying on the floor with a teenage boy over him. Olivia runs out in lingerie and tells them to put their guns away, it's just her friend Eric. She was showing him her frilly things to get his opinion when her dad walked in and they whacked him with a frying pan to keep him off Eric.Olivia's mad that she's in trouble. Jesus is the one who yanked the phone out of the wall and went after Eric, she says. She calls her dad a bully and says she doesn't haven't to take it. She says they wouldn't be there if they had any balls, like her mother said. She storms off.Mary goes to talk to her.Marshall talks to Jesus, suggesting he maybe back off a little.
Mary comes out and says the same thing. "If you don't loosen the ropes you might lose her forever," she says.Mary comes home to find delicious smells on her stove, but is slightly unnerved to find them coming from a simmering goat head. Her mom and sister are in her kitchen, so is Raphael's. She's cooking for Mary's engagement party, Jinx explains, giving Mary a "go with it" look. Josephina wraps a very surprised Mary in a hug.At the office, Mary calls Raph, wanting some clarification. He tells her his mom knew he was going to propose and he was afraid if he told his mom Mary said no that mom would hate Mary forever. Raph says he'll deal with it.Meanwhile, the US Attorney is there to prep Jesus. He sits down with him and Mary, telling stories of Felix chopping someone up in to bits and watching a building burn.
Later, he tells the Marshalls he had a long talk with Olivia after they left and things are much better.
They say good bye, planning to see him in 38 hours.Mary comes home and is upset to find Josephina's boiled goat stew still cooking on her stove. Jinx reminds Mary that Josephina came all the way from the Dominican Republic, why doesn't she just go along with it?Mary and Marshall prep for transporting Jesus to trial. They have a lot of potential threats to look out for. Mary gets a yelling calling from Jesus, saying Olivia has vanished. At his apartment, he says he hasn't seen her since she left for school yesterday. He says he won't testify until Olivia is back.Mary and Marshall go through her room. She has lots of new clothes with the tags still on and purses that cost thousands a piece. At the office, Marshall reports no one at the school has seen her.Eleanor recognizes the purse brand name and knows they're $10,000 a piece. They think she might have told her best girlfriend about them. They visit Eric (who, it turns out, really was just giving advice on lingerie), who tells them he has no idea where she is. They explain her life might be in danger.
He says she was having some sort of thing on line, using his computer. The guy emailed her expensive gift certificates and was always trying to get her to run off with him. He pulls up their chats. She's meeting him in LA.
Mary and Marshall hop a flight.Moments later they're busting down a fancy hotel door to find Olivia in her lingerie with Cesar Calderon, Felix's hot young son. She says they're in love. She tells Mary they haven't talked about the case. Mary watches as they make goo goo eyes at each other.Later, Marshall gets a call from Stan telling him Jesus is MIA. Mary opens the hotel room door to find an angry Jesus holding a crowbar. He storms in, wanting to see what man is with his daughter. When he sees Cesar, Olivia tells him her mom knew about them and gave her blessing. The two men fight over OIivia. She tells her dad he has no say in the matter, she's 18.
She wants to be with Cesar.Jesus relents, listening to her.
Calmly, he tells Cesar that if he so much as harms a hair on his daughter's head there is no power on earth that will stop him from killing him. Cesar is OK with that.Jesus tells his daughter he loves her and then tells the Marshalls he's ready to go.Mary pauses for a moment, reminding Olivia that if her dad leaves now he'll be relocated and she'll never see him again.Jesus says it's OK, Olivia is a grown up and she's made her decision. He tells her to be happy.Miami Federal Courthouse
The Marshalls escort Jesus into court. Olivia and Cesar are next to each other, holding hands in the gallery. He begins his testimony, but seeing Olivia in the gallery with the Calderons, he pauses, saying "he doesn't recall" in response to all questions.
Felix smiles at his son as Olivia looks at her dad. Cesar looks smug. The judge takes a break.
Jesus tells Mary if he testifies, Felix will kill Olivia. He doesn't care if it means he'll go to prison. He says he doesn't want Olivia to end up like her mom.Mary says he's been holding out on her. Carmen was killed by two shots to the chest. She was the target, not him. Mary asks why.Carmen was having an affair with Felix, she threatened to tell his wife. He had her killed. He didn't tell Olivia because he didn't want her to think badly of her mother.
He tells Mary to throw him in jail, he doesn't care, he's going to protect his daughter. From the other side of two-way glass, Olivia listens to her dad.The trial resumes, with Olivia back in the gallery next to Cesar. On the stand, again, Cesar says he won't testify. Olivia sees Felix nod at his son.
She stands up, telling him she doesn't know what she was thinking. Felix tells his son to control his "woman." She tells Felix that he killed her mother, she's not going to let her father go to jail for him.She goes and sits away from Felix, nodding at her dad on the stand.
Jesus tells the judge he remembers everything now. He spills. After he testifies, he and Olivia meet up and get in a good long father-daughter hug as Mary the dad-less looks on.Back home, Mary comes home to find Jinx and Brandi sitting down to dinner with Raph and his mom for some simmered goat.
She tells Josephina she wishes she hadn't gone to all the trouble.
But Josephina gives her a speech about the four days it takes to prepare the goat being symbolic of working to make a marriage work.
When Josephina's done with her heartfelt and warm words, Mary thanks her but tells she can't possibly let her continue under false pretenses. She tells her the truth about what happened. The family members clear the room, allowing Mary and Raph to hash things out. He can't believe she ruined that for his mom. She says she takes the ceremony and marriage very seriously, which is why she didn't want to fake it. He accuses her of being afraid of commitment because her dad abandoned her.
She says, yes, that messed her up, but that's not it.
She doesn't think you get married just because someone got called up to the majors (which was what precipitated her ballplayer boyfriend's proposal). He tells her she won't have to worry about that anymore. He retired yesterday. He couldn't recover from his injuries. He tells her he bought the ring six months before he gave it to her. She's the most difficult woman in the world, but he's known for a long time that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her.She hauls him to his feet and goes through his pockets, she knows he carries the ring around with him. She slips the ring on her finger and says yes.
13Let's Get It Ahn
San Diego, California:
As Aretha sings about "Dr. Feelgood," an Asian man and woman make out. The woman examines the man's tattoos and suggests they become partners. In a warehouse, another woman looks over sheets of paper being printed -- sheets of money.Mid-make-out, the Asian woman asks the man who his partners are, and it seems as if she is more interested in information than sex.The printer-woman, who later learn is Helen, looks in on them and is upset. She wipes away a tear. Back in her studio, she kisses a large portrait of the Asian woman and trashes the place.Looking at the counterfeiting plates, she picks up the phone and places a call to the Secret Service.Helen Trask enters the program as Helen Traylen. In the office, Marshall leaves yet another message for Stan, as Mary entertains herself by shooting spitballs at his face. Marshall is worried because Stan is two hours late. Then he comes in with Helen (Sherilynn Fenn). She is filled with doubt and thinks she's made a terrible mistake. She wants to go back.Stan briefs M & M: last night he got a call from HQ to meet a private plane at a hidden location. Helen is a primo counterfeiter who's been making technically perfect $100 bills -- at least until she walked in on her girlfriend inflagrante with one of her North Korean associates. But the North Korean claimed diplomatic credentials and was whisked away. A DC paper did an investigation and concluded that the Central Intelligence Agency was involved, perhaps behind it to subsidize covert ops below the radar of Congressional oversight."So the Secret Service broke up a CIA counterfeiting ring?" Mary recaps. And Helen thought her partner was a Chinese gangster. So they're either hiding her from the CIA, North Korea or the Chinese mob... no matter who or what, there's an eight-figure bounty on Helen's head. The Secret Service released Helen's girlfriend Ahn Lee, whom she met in prison, after they determined she wasn't involved.Stan leaves them to deal with Helen. In the briefing room, Helen is in tears and really missing Ahn. M & M see why, even Mary thinks the Asian galpal is ridiculously hot. But she tries to talk her out of contacting her."She's a cheating, lying, violent, antisocial sociopath," Mary says of Ahn. "Is she really the kind of person you want to hang your future on?""I could do worse," says Helen. The next day, Raphael examines the engagement ring on Mary's hand, waking her up. It's moving day. He's joining the Shannon girls.
He teases her about work, asking if she's relocating some mafioso today. She doesn't think it's funny, she told him what she does so he'd understand why she can't talk about it.There's a ring at Mary's door. It's Albuquerque Police Detective Bobby Dershowitz, with coffee and a request. He got a fingerprint answer "no reply" from the system on some prints found at a murder scene and wants her to check it out. She agrees.Marshall calls Mary about Helen. Mary guesses that her prints showed up at a murder scene. Yep.M & M visit Helen at an art shop. She looks happy, working with a youngster as a teacher.Mary takes her aside and asks about her prints in the house of a woman named Caroline Straub.Helen bursts out crying. She was there two nights ago. They had dinner and watched some TV. They were just good friends, they were out at a lesbian bar last night.Caroline had come out about four months ago and Helen was there for her, understanding what she was going through.Helen tells Mary her ex-husband wasn't thrilled when she came out.Mary and Marshall go to breakfast. Sitting across from her, Marshall notices a tan line on Mary's ring finger. She nonchalantly tells him she and Raph are engaged. Marshall sits in stunned silence. She says, "There, are you happy?" And he counters, asking if she is. He's vamping for time.Yes, of course she is, why wouldn't she be?He asks why she didn't tell him. She says because she wanted to avoid a moment like this. Marshall slips her ring onto his finger. It fits. And stays there. When she asks if he's going to congratulate her he stands to hug her and as he says congratulations we see the face of a man having a hard time believing what he's saying... he is in pain. When they leave the diner, they see Bobby Dershowitz leaving the art shop. He reports that Caroline's ex said Helen had an unusual hold on on his wife.At the house, Brandi "helps" Raph move by reading all his magazines as he hauls boxes. Then she asks if it's weird that they're going to be living together given that they have a past and almost had a thing. She suggests they talk about it and get on with their lives. They attempt, but get nowhere.Back at the office, M & M tell Stan that so far they're buying the ex-did-it-theory. They sit down to run a threat assessment and check the counterfeiting angle. Then Eleanor notices the huge shiny rock on Marshall's finger. When he says it's an engagement ring she panics, calling for Stan, thinking M & M are engaged. Mary sets them straight.Eleanor goes to examine the ring on Marshall's finger.Mary looks up Carolyn, who turns out to be a professor of graphic arts, with a specialty in engraving and intaglio print processes."So your counterfeiter witness' murdered friend turns out to be the one lesbian in Albuquerque with access to everything necessary to literally print money," Marshall says. "What are the odds?"Marshall wants to check the alibi. Mary thinks he just wants to go to the lesbian bar, but off they go.The bartender says everyone knows Helen and she was in there Wednesday with the "newbie," "Carol" something. They had gotten into a big fight.M & M go to Helen's apartment and kick in the door. She's not there. They search her closet; all her clothes are gone. They find the license of someone named Darryl Preston.Back at the office they find a report filed by Preston, saying he hooked up with a hot chick in a bar then woke up with his wallet missing in a hotel room -- where Ahn Lee's prints were found.Mary wonders why the local cops would check for finger prints in a hotel robbery, and why the license was so casually left behind at Helen's. They find NCIC searches by a Hong Kong cop looking for Ahn Lee, specifically her known associate, Helen Trask. Since the wallet report was filed three weeks ago, they think he must be close.Mary calls Darryl Preston while Marshall calls David Palmer, the Albuquerque police officer who took the report. They each talk to whoever answers for a moment before he puts them on hold. While on hold, they end up singing along in remarkably perfect sync to with Gilbert & Sullican's "I am the very model of a modern Major-General," then realize they're talking to the same guy. But who?Mary gets Eleanor running background checks on Darryl, David and Ahn. They think the wallet theft was faked to fish for Helen.Dershowitz comes in, wanting to talk to Helen. They tell him she split. They ask him to check if Albuquerque PD has a David Palmer. He does -- they don't.Eleanor reports that it looks like the Hong Kong captain is also a ghost as well.Marshall gets a call: a casino has gotten $30,000 fake bills in the last few hours. Off they go to follow-up.At the casino, a manager tells them the Secret Service is on the way. A few of his dealers remember a hot Asian woman using the bills. They're not very good copies, which means they're from Ahn and she's the one dropping bread crumbs to find Helen.Mary thinks they're in the hotel. She asks about the most expensive suite. In the room, they find Helen calmly painting her toenails. And then Ahn runs out, gun drawn, telling M & M to drop their weapons. A good ol' True Romance-style stand-off ensues. Mary hustles Helen into the bedroom for her safety. Ahn tells her she'd rather they both die than be split up again.Mary sizes Ahn up and tells her her training is showing. Her aggressive handgun stance, they way she holds her weapon, the fact she called it a "weapon" (instead of a "gun"), passing easily detectable counterfeit bills so that someone could easily find her...
What they don't know is who she's expecting to walk through the door.Busted, Ahn lowers her weapon. She's Jane Kwan, CIA, and the men who are after Helen will be there any minute.Four years ago when the story broke that the CIA was involved, they sent her undercover in prison to get close to Helen so they could clear their name. Helen hears this and comes out of the bedroom. But Ahn gets word that the men are there.Three Asian men bust is. As Mary holds her gun on them, Ahn cuffs them. Dershowitz brings in another he found in the hall with an automatic weapon.Situation diffused.Outside, Helen asks Mary if she'll have to be relocated. It depends, Mary asks her why she fought with Carolyn. She says Carolyn found out Ahn used school equipment to print counterfeit bills and threatened to turn her in. Helen swears she didn't kill her.Mary tells her she's a national security threat and Ahn was just doing her job.Helen counters that she's not a job, she's a person.Ahn/Jane comes over and asks to talk to Helen. She says it started as a job, but after a while it was more than that. That's why she hooked up with the North Korean associate, so she could wrap up her assignment and they could be together.Dershowtiz reports they found one of the Korean's fingerprints at his murder scene, they're all being charged.Mary goes back over to sort things out with her witness, but stops short when the two women start making out.M & M return to the office to find Stan and Eleanor blowing noise makers and balloons everywhere. They wish her a happy engagement. If only she had a ring....Eleanor gets to work on Marshall's finger. A nifty trick with some hand lotion and dental floss pops it right off.Stan pours champagne as Marshall muddles through a toast to "the best friend he's ever had." He says he hopes she knows he loves her and he wishes for her a lifetime of happiness. They toast happiness.Marshall drinks down the champagne over a song with the lyric "I will carry my torch for you...."His pain is palpable.
