The bravado Fonzie shows around Kirk is just a cover - he's really troubled by the officer's constant harassment. Richie decides to write a letter to the editor of the Milwaukee Journal, while Howard - who is also considering contacting the mayor about Kirk's power-hungry attitude - calls a meeting of the Leopard Lodge to pressure Kirk into stopping his harassment campaign. However, Kirk somehow finds out what's going on, shows up at the Cunninghams and tries to intimidate the Lodge members into backing off (by threatening such things as ticketing the group for unlawful assembly, revoking Arnold's dance floor permit, citing Mr. Malph for a sign variance violation and taking away Howard's loading zone). Eventually, Kirk learns that Fonzie is at Arnold's and goes in for a late-night confrontation. Fonzie agrees to leave town, under the condition that he will now deal with Richie (who comes in clad in a leather jacket and greased hair). Kirk says he will be more than glad to deal with Richie, but then Potsie, Ralph, Joanie, Howard, Marion, Al ... and a bunch of teen-agers - all dressed in leather jackets, plain white T-shirts and blue jeans (except for Marion, who has on a skirt instead of jeans) - show up. Kirk eventually realizes he's outnumbered and concedes defeat. Everyone decides to celebrate with an impromptu sock hop.

Richie takes Lori Beth with him one day while Fonzie out out and Chachi is repairing a truck rented by Postie, Ralph, and Al. Chachi gets the truck running and the gang is ecstatic, but their happiness disintegrates when an injured Lori Beth runs into the garage begging for help because of a savage crash that has caught her and Richie. Later at the hospital the doctor can only tell Howard and Marion that Richie was fortunate he was wearing his helmet, but that he may never regain consciousness. While the family go home and are greeted by their friends (Leather offers a touching song to comfort everyone), Fonzie goes to the hospital late that night and sees the unconscious Richie. The sight so horrifies Fonzie that he utters a rambling prayer to the Lord ... and finally breaks down in tears at the possible death of his friend. Fonzie keeps a bedside vigil for Richie, who eventually awakens from his coma. Richie makes a full recovery and is quickly back to his old self, and Fonzie thanks God for helping pull his friend through.

Marion learns about this and becomes very upset, leading to a huge argument between mother and son.
5Welcome Home: Part 2
01 Nov 1983
Description ▼Richie bottles up his emotions as he continues to hold his day job as a reporter at the Milwaukee Journal. Eventually, his emotions boil over at the dinner table, and he storms out of the house. Fonzie decides to go after his friend and try to calm him down, and eventually tracks him down to a tavern. This time, Richie - who plans to get drunk - refuses to buy into the "talk to Fonzie and it will be all better" routine, and slugs the Fonz. Fonzie keeps his cool, however and tells him he needs to air his concerns appropriately with his mother. After a good night's sleep, Richie shares his feelings with Marion and convinces her that he's ready to make whatever sacrifices he needs to for his dream to come true. Marion still has her reservations about the idea of Richie pursuing what appears to be a difficult dream, but accepts the fact that Richie's future is in screen writing. Howard accepts too, and after a couple of weeks, everyone shares an emotional farewell.

10Kiss Me, Teach
10 Jan 1984
Description ▼Joanie is ecstatic when she learns she has been approved to enter a student teaching agreement. Howard and Marion, however, become gravely concerned when they learn Joanie will be teaching at Patton High, a school, despite the best efforts of Roger and Fonzie, that is notorious for poor academics and overall disorder. However, Fonzie convinces everyone that Joanie will do fine. However, the students in Joanie's English class refuse to learn except for one ... a student named Frankie. Frankie asks Joanie for help on an upcoming assignment and she agrees. However, she is unaware that Frankie has sinister ulterior motives. After an attempt to get at her at home fails (the others quickly become wise to him and kick him out), Frankie makes his move on Joanie in an empty classroom. The fire alarm goes off, and everyone except Frankie leaves. Before Joanie can leave, Frankie locks the door, corners his teacher and tries to kiss her against her will. Just then, Fonzie barges in and runs Frankie off. Fonzie is left to console a shaken Joanie, who is sure her teaching career has ended before it began. However, Fonzie convinces her nothing that happened was her fault, and that during her career she will have to deal with "students" (i.e., hoodlums) whose only reason for going to school is starting trouble.

Description ▼While Fonzie is working late at the garage to restore a wrecked 1955 Chevrolet convertible, a beautiful young woman named Nancy Haley walks in. Nancy explains she is stranded and needs a ride home. Fonzie obliges, and when he returns to her house a few days later is met by the puzzled woman. She explains that Nancy doesn't live there, but that the couple who lived there previously had a daughter who was killed in a car accident about 10 years earlier and that the family had since moved away. Fonzie goes to the Cunninghams to get an explanation, but they just laugh at him. Later, at the garage, Nancy returns and asks Fonzie to take her for a ride in the newly restored car. He agrees, but the car soon stalls on a set of railroad tracks. Fonzie is unable to get the car restarted and there's a train approaching. However, Nancy is in no hurry to let Fonzie escape the car. Just as the train strikes the car, Fonzie wakes up in his rusted car shell and realizes he was only dreaming. He quickly retracts his earlier remark about how he wishes it was 1955 forever.
